Award Winning Water Fountains in Bern - with ProMinent

In 2005 the American Institute of Architects awarded five prices for outstanding urban development. One of these prices was awarded to the designers of the Bundesplatz in Berne.

 With the redevelopment of the Bundesplatz, the seat of the Bundesrat (Upper House of Parliament) as well as the National Assembly and Ständerat (Swiss Parliament) now have an appropriate environment to suit their status. This redevelopment project sets positive examples of how outstanding results can be achieved through competition and how the design of the outer area open to the public can stir up high emotions and represent more than mere technical installations. A water feature with 26 water jets symbolises the 26 cantons of Switzerland. For the people using the square it is a popular and vibrant element, particularly in summer.

This water feature represents a modern interpretation of the classic spring fountain and consists of water nozzles that are embedded in the concrete. During the opening ceremony the designers pointed out that the liveliness of the water feature is intended to assimilate the movements of the people in the square. Today, the water feature has become the most popular water playground of the children of the city of Berne.
