For many years now, the Environmental Prize donated by the Viktor & Sigrid Dulger Foundation has recognised young scientists for significant work to protect nature and the environment. The prize is worth €10,000 and is bestowed by the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
This year’s prize goes to Dr. Jingyuan Xu for her outstanding research in the field of sustainable thermo-acoustic technologies for cooling, heating and power generation. One of the main benefits of these technologies is that they do not release any harmful gases and do not feature any mechanically moving parts, which makes them particularly environmentally-friendly and cost-effective.
Dr. Xu's work provides innovative approaches to the use of renewable energies and is a key boost to the development of environmentally-sound heating and cooling technologies with no emissions.
An impressive scientific career
Dr. Jingyuan Xu is head of the CZS Nexus research group for “zero-emission and eco-friendly heating and cooling technologies (ZEco Thermal Lab)” at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). Before working at KIT, she was a researcher at the University of Cambridge and Imperial College London. With almost 60 scientific publications and 15 patents to her name, Dr. Xu has already made significant contributions to the scientific world.
Alongside the Environmental Prize of the Viktor & Sigrid Dulger Foundation, Dr. Xu also received the Leopoldina Prize for Young Scientists from the German National Academy of Sciences and is a member of the Global Young Academy. These awards underline her fantastic scientific achievements and her commitment to ecologically-sound technologies.
