DULCOPAC

PAH treatment system for the removal of micropollutants.

Product description

DULCOPAC is a system for treating PAHs that was developed to remove micropollutants

TOMAL AB is a subsidiary of ProMinent and specializes in the dosing of solid products in powder form. TOMAL AB developed the DULCOPAC system.

Synthetic trace substances, or micropollutants, are substances that are difficult to break down, such as residues from pharmaceuticals, pesticides, or industrial chemicals like PFAS.

Conventional wastewater treatment cannot sufficiently remove these trace substances from wastewater. As a result, they accumulate in water bodies and the natural environment, where they cause toxic effects or hormonal disruptions, thereby endangering ecosystems. The dosing of powdered activated carbon (PAC) in the final stage of municipal wastewater treatment plants has proven effective in removing such micropollutants.

Tomal offers various systems for dosing PAC, depending on the facility and specific requirements:

  • The volume of water to be treated
  • The type of facility available
  • The required degree of precision
  • The required level of automation

We can customize our systems with the following combinations:

  • PAK dosing from a big bag, for low consumption
  • PAK dosing from a silo, for higher consumption
  • Volumetric dosing with an accuracy of 1–2%
  • Gravimetric dosing for maximum precision (up to 0.2%) and exact measurement of the PAK quantity

Your benefits

  • Precise suspension preparation with constant concentration
  • Dust-free operation
  • Turnkey system with storage silo up to 12.2 in3 (200 m3)
  • Bridge-breaking system for minimal risk of fluidization
  • Dual silo discharge for full redundancy
  • Modular system with a dosing capacity of 8.8 to 882 lbs (4 to 400 kg) PAH/hour
  • Output of up to 0.6 m3 (10 m3) of suspension per hour at multiple injection points

Field of application

The following list is a general representation of basically suitable applications for this product. Please contact your personal representative to discuss the use of the product in your individual application.

Removal of Micropollutants in Wastewater Treatment Plants

Injection of activated carbon suspension into the wastewater treatment process to remove micropollutants through adsorption.

Pesticides, nitrates, and organic substances in drinking water treatment plants

Injection of activated carbon suspension into the drinking water treatment process to regulate taste, odor, and many other drinking water parameters.

Treatment of industrial wastewater

Injection of activated carbon suspension into industrial wastewater to remove organic contaminants before they are discharged into the environment or reused.

Powdered Activated Carbon (PAC)

Powdered activated carbon is frequently used to filter contaminants from water and air. Its purpose is to significantly increase the surface area available for adsorption and chemical reactions through a large number of small, low-volume pores.

    Technical Details

DULCOPAC consists of a gravimetric dosing system mounted beneath a storage silo. The PAK is conveyed gravimetrically into a wetting hopper, where it is mixed with water and transferred to a buffer tank, from which the suspension is pumped to the dosing points.

    How It Works

    • When the level is low, the weighing hopper is filled with PAK from the storage silo via the discharge screw. Any bridging is broken up by the Tomal bridge-breaking system.
    • A shut-off valve prevents further PAK from falling into the hopper after the discharge screw stops.
    • The unique Tomal multi-screw conveyor transports the PAK into the wetting hopper. The Tomal conveyor, in combination with a gravimetric differential weighing system, guarantees optimal dosing accuracy.
    • In the wetting hopper, the PAK is controlled and completely wetted with a minimal amount of dilution water. The water flow is measured with a flow meter, and the appropriate amount of PAK is added—controlled by the differential weighing system—to achieve a constant suspension concentration.
    • The resulting suspension is then transported to a buffer tank via a water reducer.
    • Finally, the suspension is pumped via a return line to several injection points, from where it can be dosed into the water to be treated to bind micropollutants. The dosing of the suspension is precisely controlled by a flow meter and a control valve mounted on a distribution carriage.
    • The system’s dosing rate can be adjusted based on the water inflow into the contact basin.
    • Any unused suspension is returned to the buffer tank via the return line. Continuous recirculation ensures that the suspension remains in constant motion to minimize the risk of sedimentation.
    • The system is available in single or double configurations. The silo can be mounted at a distance from the distribution block. The system can generally be customized to meet specific customer requirements.
    • Turnkey delivery by ProMinent, including a control cabinet with electrical installation, assembly, and commissioning.
    • CE marking in accordance with the Machinery Directive 2014/34/EC.
